About asslams

The history, mission, and people behind the Association of Soil Science and Land Management Students (asslams) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

Soil Health Research, Fertility Analysis and Sustainable Land Stewardship

Our Story

asslams was established to provide every student in the Department of Soil Science and Land Management (SSLM) at FUNAAB with an empowering home — academically, socially, and professionally. Under the College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), we connect classroom soil chemistry, physics, and pedology with hands-on field soil profiling and environmental management.

Over the years, our departmental community has nurtured student scientists through structured academic clinics, soil survey expeditions across agrarian ecosystems, GIS workshops, and inter-departmental sports, building an impactful legacy of leadership in agricultural sustainability.

Pedology & Soil Classification

Studying soil genesis, morphology, profile horizons, and GIS-driven spatial soil survey to understand the earth's natural architecture.

Soil Chemistry & Nutrient Management

Mastering plant nutrition, organic matter dynamics, fertilizer technology, and soil remediation to foster resilient crop yields.

Land Resource & Conservation

Implementing erosion control, watershed management, digital terrain modeling, and sustainable land stewardship for food security.

OUR JOURNEY

Milestones Along the Way

2013

Founding of ASSLAMS

Dedicated Soil Science and Land Management students formalised the association to foster academic synergy, pedological fieldwork support, and departmental representation.

2017

Academic Clinics & Practical Tutorials

What started as informal tutorials by senior students became a structured, termly clinic program covering soil chemistry, pedology, and land resource evaluation.

2020

Digital Dues & Member Portals

asslams moved dues tracking and member records online for the first time, ending the era of paper receipts.

2023

E-Library & SSLM Research Repository

A centralized departmental repository of lecture materials, past questions, and soil science project archives became available to every registered member.

2026

Integrated asslams Web Platform

asslams launches a modern digital platform and student dashboard — connecting academics, soil conservation research, and departmental community.
